Crown Point Hub Run 2010

I had hoped to keep up on my blog and post updates and pictures as I completed events. Since that didn't happen I am going to try and get caught up now and tell you what I have been up to.

My third running event for 2010 was very special to me. I guess they all have been "special" in their own way but this one was because it was my hubby's first 5k.

It was held in the afternoon and was pretty warm outside. I had made the mistake of trying to catch up on some weeding the week prior so I was very sore and in no mood to run. If it wasn't Michael's first race, I probably would have skipped it. I'm glad I didn't though. My running partner, Jennifer, Michael and I started out the race together and got to the point where we all split to go our own pace. I never want to hold anyone back and never want anyone to hold me back either. Jennifer took off that day after I promised her it was cool and that I wanted her to go ahead. Michael made me go on at my pace because he was sure he was fine although I hated having him do the first one alone. He had his tunes to keep his company and off I went.

The course had a couple of big hills through the neighborhood. I loved that they had people sitting out on the their front porches or on the side of the road cheering you on. There was a water stop every mile along the way. There was a nice group of people handing out ice at the top of the last big hill. That was a lifesaver. Ice on the back of the neck and down the shirt really helps cool ya off!

My walk/run time wasn't as good as I hoped due to my soreness but I pushed through to the end in the same amount of time it took me to do my first 5k. The heat really drained me and I was so glad to be finished.

Jennifer set a new PR that day and I was so proud of her. She got there to get the pictures of the rest of us coming in. Kelley and Nick made great time too.

It was great when I saw Michael coming around the corner. It actually brought tears to my eyes to see him finish. I knew that he could do it but was so proud for him to actually experience it. He said he did it for me but had no clue on how much he needed to do it for himself.
