Mother's Day Race 2010

I completed my second official race. This was the Mother's Day race for Breast Cancer research held in Barrington, Illinois. This one was a little bit harder for me mentally at first. I was sick on Saturday and just didn't want to do anything. If I didn't have the commitment to my other friends going I would have probably canceled. I'm glad I didn't though. It turned out to be a great day. Most of the race was just a speed walk though. Although they didn't have official chip timing, I did just as well, if not better, than I did at the Penguin. My theory is at the Penguin I ran more and then slow walked. The speed walk actually pulled me along just as nicely without the stress on my joints. Hip hip hooray for not being sore the next day!

My friends, Marisol and Anabel, came out for their first 5k. I was so happy for them. They walk that distance all the time so I knew they could do it! There's something about doing a race that shatters some of those self doubts that you just aren't able to do something. Never underestimate the power of a determined woman.

I am also pleased to say that I am down 35 pounds since December 1st. The best part is that I haven't really focused on losing weight. I have just fed my passion to run and the weight loss has been the icing on that big fat-free cake!

Next run this Sunday. Stay tuned for pics and race results.
