I haven't kept up on my posting lately but it's only because I have been too busy. I have continued to work out periodically though. My eating has been pretty good. I have almost completely cut out all caffeine. I have been avoiding sugar as much as possible and have found that my sweet tooth is actually starting to simmer down and not cause me to crave it so much. I have continued walking at work on my breaks. It really helps keep the blood flowing since I sit at a desk all day. I updated my weight loss ticker to show where I was when I started on December 1st. 17 pounds isn't a huge amount of weight loss but I am still proud of it and it helps me to know that it's 7 pounds of fat no longer keeping me from running.
The other day I posted about getting a new book about running. It's called "The Courage to Start" by John Bingham. It's his story about how he got started running. It had me hooked just reading the intro. He talks about all of his personal reasons for wanting to run and all of the thoughts and fears about not fitting in as an actual runner. He has run hundreds of races and has done it just to run and enjoy it. When I think of myself running I don't visualize myself winning any marathons or even 5ks. I just want to complete them. I want to know that I have what it takes to get me from start to finish. I want to be lost in my thoughts and just find my inner strength to push me all the way to the end. I don't want to be competitive. I just want to participate. I want to know what it feels like to have people clapping for me for doing something athletic. Right now I have increased my running to about 90 seconds and walking for 3 minutes in between. I have a really long way to go but it all starts with a single step right?
Have a healthy weekend!

This isn't usually meant in a good way....
ReplyDeleteYou've changed.
....But a GOOD WAY is definitely what I mean here. In the past few days, and over the past weeks, you have given me a whole new reason to love and admire you. Keep at it, hon. You're amazing!
I love that book! His column on Runner's World is really great too.
